How Does Kybella® Work?
Kybella® is composed of synthetic deoxycholic acid. In your digestive system, your body naturally creates this bile acid, which aids in the breakdown of lipids.
Kybella® is a fat-cell destroyer that is injected under the chin. The fat removed from the treatment region is processed by your body’s natural metabolism. You’ll notice a dramatic reduction in fullness under your chin once the fat cells are gone.
What to Expect During Kybella® Treatment
Your skin expert will check the area under and around your chin to see if Kybella® is suitable for you before starting treatment. Then, depending on the amount of fat under your chin and your aesthetic goals, they will customize your procedure.
You will receive many tiny injections under your chin during each Kybella® treatment, which will take about 15 to 20 minutes. The number of injections required will be determined by the amount of fat under your chin.
After Your Kybella® Treatment
Although the treated area swells and remains mildly uncomfortable for a week or two following Kybella® treatment, most patients are able to resume their normal routine the next day without a long recovery period. The effects of Kybella® are long-lasting. This is due to deoxycholic acid’s ability to break down the fat cells that contribute to a double chin. Fat cells do not regenerate after they have been destroyed, and our bodies are not capable of creating new fat cells after we reach the age of puberty.

Because each Kybella® treatment plan is different, prices vary for each patient. The overall cost is determined by the number of treatment sessions required and the fees charged by your healthcare provider. Medical insurance does not cover Kybella®, because it is considered a cosmetic treatment.
